The Cast of WEST SIDE STORY Dishes on Scary Movies, Touring, Coffee and More!

November 3, 2011

I’ve had the pleasure of doing in-town press with several cast members from WEST SIDE STORY and wanted to ask them a few questions to get to know them better.  Because the cast/crew arrived on Monday, Oct. 31, I thought it was only appropriate to ask them:

What is your favorite scary movie?

Ross Lekites

Ross lekites - Tony

“Hocus Pocus” because of a certain someone’s amazing cleavage (he says with a laugh). – Ross Lekites (Tony)

Lekites recently spoke with Broadway.com, where he talked about his favorite Halloween costume!

Coffee of choice:  Venti Iced Coffee

Breakfast of choice:  A banana and a pumpkin scone from Starbucks.

Favorite part of touring:  He likes staying in hotel rooms.  He always thought hotel rooms were so cool when he was a kid.  Now, he gets to live in them.

Evy Ortiz

Evy Ortiz - Maria

I like all the “Saw” movies because they’re ridiculously gory.  They are my favorites. – Evy Ortiz (Maria)

Coffee of choice:  She decided against coffee!  She’s an apple juice kind of girl…awwww!

Breakfast of choice:  A banana and a cranberry scone from Starbucks.

Favorite part of touring:  She enjoys singing in all the different theaters and getting to see all the different parts of the country.

Michelle Aravena

Michelle Aravena - Anita

I love psychological horror movies.  My favorite has to be “The Sixth Sense.”  I also really enjoy “The Others.”  I’m all about those types of movies! – Michelle Aravena (Anita)

Coffee of choice:  Just a regular cup of coffee with some half and half and splenda.

Breakfast of choice:  An apple and a banana.

Favorite part of touring:  Revisiting cities she performed in 10 years ago.  She’s toured in Mamma Mia! (Sophie) and Les Miserables (Fantine u/s).

Drew Foster

Drew Foster - Riff

I don’t like scary movies.  Can I say “Rear Window?”  Is that considered a horror movie? – Drew Foster (Riff)

Coffee of choice:  Just a regular coffee with half and half.  No sugar.

Breakfast of choice:  A banana (I’m starting to see a theme here).

Favorite part of touring:  He enjoys tasting the different cuisines in all the cities he passes through.  He’ll enjoy some southern BBQ in Charlotte.  In Boston, he made sure to have some clam chowder and in Dallas he ate a lot of steak!

Foster did a live TV interview on WBTV News at 4 on Wednesday with Brigida Mack.  We’ll post the clip as soon as it’s ready.  Did you see his interview live?

German Santiago

German Santiago - Bernardo

I have so many.  I have to say that I’m a fan of the original “The Exorcist.”  And I really like the first “Saw” movie.  I’m a huge horror fan. – German Santiago

German Santiago plays Bernardo.

Coffee of choice:  Green Tea Soy Latte (no syrup/just soy and matcha powder).  I actually had to google matcha powder.  Matcha is a fine ground, powdered, high quality green tea powder BTW.

Breakfast of choice:  A Granny Smith apple.

Favorite part of touring:  He enjoys seeing all of his friends in different parts of the country.

On Wednesday, Santiago and Foster taught WBTV anchor Kristen Miranda a little bit about fight choreography (they are the leaders of the Jets and Sharks after all).  Don’t miss their interview this Saturday, Nov. 5, between 6 and 8 a.m.  It will air several times.  Check your local listings for channel information.

WEST SIDE STORY is now playing through Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts CenterCLICK HERE for more information!
