Looking Ahead – Cirque Dreams: Holidaze Opens Tomorrow

December 17, 2012

The holidays are right around the corner and Blumenthal Performing Arts is celebrating with the festive CIRQUE DREAMS: HOLIDAZE.

Renowned director Neil Goldberg, creator of the groundbreaking Broadway hit CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY, re-imagines the holiday season with CIRQUE DREAMS: HOLIDAZE. An international cast of over 30 multi-talented and brilliantly costumed artists come to life and perform astonishing feats of disbelief. Experience gingerbread men flipping mid-air, toy soldiers marching on thin wires, snowmen daringly balancing, ice men powerfully sculpting, penguins spinning, puppets dancing and reindeer soaring high above a landscape of holiday wonderment. An original music score and some seasonal favorites accompany hundreds of spectacular costumes and holiday dreams in a setting of gigantic gifts, colossal candy canes and 30-foot towering soldiers. The perfect way to come in from the cold, forget the holiday stresses and rediscover the magic of the season.

Please note: The best seats are available at the Friday, December 21 matinee performance at 2 p.m.

Broadway World Charlotte‘s Linda Watt spoke with director Neil Goldberg about his story behind creating HOLIDAZE.  “I was inspired by my ornament collection,” Goldberg said.  “When I was a child growing up in Oceanside, I would walk home from the Yeshiva and I would pick the ornaments that were left on the discarded Christmas trees in my neighborhood.  In HOLIDAZE, there are living ornaments on a huge 30-foot steel Christmas tree on stage. We have 300 costumes in the show.”  CLICK HERE to read the full interview.
