THE BOOK OF MORMON Breaks Records in London – Heading to Charlotte as Part of the 2013-14 Broadway Lights Series

March 25, 2013

Did you hear that we announced the 2013-2014 Duke Energy Broadway Lights Series?  One of the most anticipated titles is The Book of Mormon (Dec. 26, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014, in Belk Theater).

The producers of The Book of Mormon, which opened Thursday night at London’s Prince of Wales Theatre, announced that the show set a record for the biggest single day of sales in West End history.  Between 10 a.m. and midnight Friday, March 22, the day after opening, ticket sales were at $3,210,019.  The theater made 150,000 more tickets available, and the show is now playing in London until Jan. 11.

Ben Brantley of The New York Times calls it “the best musical of this century.” Entertainment Weekly says it’s “the funniest musical of all time.” From South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, it’s The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards® including Best Musical. Jon Stewart of The Daily Show calls it “a crowning achievement. So good it makes me angry.”

The Associated Press reports The Book of Mormon remains the toughest ticket to get on Broadway.

A production has opened in Chicago — it set a house record for the Bank of America Theatre and has been extended three times until September — and a national tour kicked off in August in Denver, where it has broken box office records as it crosses the country.

The tour currently is in Detroit — where it already has broken the Fisher Theatre’s house record for a standard eight-performance week.

Season ticket-holders have guaranteed seats for The Book of Mormon, as well as all the other season titles.

Season Tickets for the Duke Energy Broadway Lights Series productions are available now. Prices for the seven-show package start at $19.20 a month.
