Thank you cards from Freedom School Scholars.

On Aug. 6, Blumenthal Performing Arts hosted Freedom School Scholars at the opening preview night for Disney’s The Lion King at Belk Theater. Recently, Blumenthal raised funds through a power2give.org campaign to bring 1,000 Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School scholars to see the performance.

Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools are summer programs are literacy focused, but the afternoons are reserved for enrichment time, such as cultural field trips. Students who attended the opening preview performance of Disney’s The Lion King ranged from grades 3 through 12. They took buses with their chaperones from various Freedom Schools in Charlotte, and from as far away as Bennettsville, SC, to see the show in uptown Charlotte.

Blumenthal is happy to support enrichment and educational programs that help our organization maintain diverse programming for the community. We believe all students should have opportunities to be inspired by theater, and Disney’s The Lion King is uniquely inspirational. Judging by the looks on their faces at the show, and the notes of gratitude we received afterward, the children had a wonderful experience.

Tickets are still available for this phenomenal, award-winning Disney classic. Call the box office at 704-372-1000 or click HERE to purchase your tickets today!
