Rickie Lee Jones Plays McGlohon Theater Next Month
It might be difficult to pinpoint the genre — some say it’s a “mixed bag” — but Rickie Lee Jones is always known for bringing a unique blend of jazz, rock and soul to the stage. On Oct. 24, Jones will be in McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square doing just that.
The five-time Grammy nominee has been on the music scene since the late ’70s. But now, with a new album and some exciting interpretations, Jones is showing the world what’s next for her. “The Devil You Know” turns her focus to the rock ‘n’ roll canon that shaped a generation. She tackles the work of such giants as Neil Young (“Only Love Can Break Your Heart”), The Band (“The Weight”), and Van Morrison (“Comfort You”). Though these songs are burned deeply into most people’s brains, Jones finds her own unique way in — peeling them back with spare, intimate arrangements, and uncovering layers and emotions that feel familiar yet new.

Jones certainly hasn’t lost her touch. Here she is playing live last year on “Jools Holland,” a contemporary British music television show hosted by Jools Holland.
