Tuesday Tune: ‘Black Hole Sun’ by Chris Cornell

November 12, 2013

Chris Cornell has established himself as one of the most respected artists in rock ‘n’ roll music today. The former lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave has embarked on a solo acoustic “Songbook” tour this fall. Joined by Bhi Bhiman, he will stop in Charlotte’s Knight Theater on Monday, Dec. 2.

Throughout his career, Cornell has won multiple Grammy awards, been nominated for a Golden Globe, written and performed a James Bond theme song, and released four solo albums. All of this on top of releasing six albums with Soundgarden, three albums with Audioslave and touring the world with both bands.

His voice’s raspy, gritty texture makes him one of the most unique rock ‘n’ roll singers. “Black Hole Sun,” the single that shot Soundgarden to popularity, showcases it perfectly. Watch the video below to see Chris perform the song as part of Yahoo! Music’s acoustic sessions. It’s similar to what you can expect to hear from him Dec. 2.

He recently collaborated with The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams for a song titled “Misery Chain” for the film “12 Years a Slave,” which just hit theaters this past Friday. Watch the video below to hear one of his most recent recordings.

Don’t miss Cornell in Knight Theater on Monday, Dec. 2! Tickets are selling fast, so get yours soon. Buy tickets now.

Just for fun, here’s my favorite song from the Chris Cornell songbook! See him perform a stripped version of Audioslave’s “Like a Stone” below.
