Team Broadway Prepares for December Showcase
Thirty-five talented students from across the Charlotte region came together in August to hone their musical theater skills under the guidance of award-winning directing team Lori Anne Sword and Linda Booth. The name of this energetic group and brand-new program is Team Broadway, and the result of the team’s hard work is an original musical theater showcase titled When I Grow Up …. Sponsored and overseen by Blumenthal Performing Arts, Team Broadway was created to provide a next step for young students who are seriously considering musical theater as a profession.
Over the course of three months, students meet once a week in uptown Charlotte at Spirit Square to work with Sword, Booth and musical director Bill Congdon, who is fresh off the road after directing the national tour of Billy Elliot. While instructing and working with this exceptional group of students, Sword, Booth and Congdon saw a unique opportunity to develop a showcase event featuring the Team Broadway students performing musical numbers from Broadway’s freshest and biggest hits.
When I Grow Up … is a one-act musical journey of self-discovery exploring the path from adolescence to young adulthood. It offers a wide variety of sensational contemporary musical theater scores arranged exclusively for Team Broadway. The energy and enthusiasm shown throughout the showcase is inspiring!

“Audiences will delight in a heartwarming musical theater showcase featuring 35 of Charlotte’s extremely talented teens,” says Sword. “This original revue chronicles the challenges, successes, and experiences of growing up in three sections: the awkward, yet endearing middle school years, the exciting, yet intensive high school years, and the pinnacle of the collegiate years into young adulthood.”
When I Grow Up … will play in Booth Playhouse Dec. 4 and 5. Don’t miss your chance to see Broadway’s future stars! CLICK HERE to get tickets!
