Tuesday Tune: “Let the Good Times Roll” with Under the Streetlamp
Jersey Boys is one of the most successful and longest running musicals on Broadway. The story of the iconic Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons has been running since 2005, won the Tony Award for Best Musical and reached its 3,487th performance on April 9, but who’s counting? It definitely features some the most talented singers and leading men on Broadway. Four actors who played the legendary group in Chicago have formed a band called Under the Streetlamp and they’re coming to Belk Theater September 23. Their sound is practically exactly the sound of Jersey Boys, so Jersey Boys fans rejoice and behold Under the Streetlamp!
Michael Cunio, Michael Ingersoll, Christopher Kale Jones and Shonn Wiley make the quartet and exude the qualities of a modern day Rat Pack/Doo-Wop infused group. Tight harmonies, unique arrangements, magnetic personalities and a stellar, seasoned performance is what you can expect from Under the Streetlamp.
You may be wondering, just like I did, “so why are they called Under the Streetlamp?” Here’s what they say about that on their Facebook page:
For us, that simple image epitomizes all the joy, intimacy, and passion wrapped up in the era of music we like to call the “American Radio Songbook.” Thoroughly diverse and infused with an indomitable spirit, this music is iconically American.
It was hard for me to pick just one song to feature this week, so instead I chose to share a sneak peek of their new PBS special. The video features each member singing lead, so you get a really good taste of what to expect on September 23 when Under the Streetlamp presents “Let the Good Times Roll.” Watch the video below to see them in action.
Don’t miss Under the Streetlamp with special guest Gentleman’s Rule at Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, September 23! Click HERE for tickets.
