Throwback Thursday: Tony Awards Viewing Party was a Hit!

June 12, 2014

“WBTV News” anchor Kristen Miranda was a fabulous host for our 10th annual Tony Awards Viewing Party!

There was only one place this past Sunday where you could find Hugh Jackman hopping onstage, Neil Patrick Harris playing a transgender, and TI & LL Cool J singing “Music Man” — at the 2014 Tony Awards of course! At Blumenthal, we had a full view of all the action — tap dancing, laughter and cross-dressing — up on our big screen in McGlohon Theater for our 10th annual Tony Awards Viewing Party.

We throw this party for the public (for free!) to gather every musical-loving man and woman to watch one of the most illustrious award ceremonies, and to even pose with a real Tony Award!

This year was particularly special (and I don’t mean because Jefferson Mays changed onstage in three smooth transitions). It was our biggest year yet with more than 400 people in attendance. It wouldn’t have been possible without the fabulous prize bags we gave away (seriously, a free month of tanning and tickets to see a show!), but most importantly our host, the lovely and charismatic Kristen Miranda. The “WBTV News” anchor really engaged the audience with anecdotes about her life, happy-go-lucky demeanor and enjoyable presence as a guide for the Tony Awards throughout the night. She demonstrated how even off camera she continues to be a fantastic personality, and we are so grateful to have had her lead us into our festivities on Sunday night.

On top of showcasing the award ceremony, we made sure everyone had a great time by providing some tasty refreshments (that spinach and artichoke dip was de-licious), amazing raffle prizes, and even the chance to pose for a photo with a real Tony award (yes it was real — I held it myself, and let me tell you, plastic is not as heavy as that thing). Young and old, guys and “dolls,” everyone lined up to strike a pose with their winning, happy, or even fighting-over-the-award face in the spirit of celebrating notable plays and musicals.

Over 400 people came out to take part in all the fun this year!

More than 400 people came out to take part in all the fun this year!

I had no idea what to except for my first time attending the Tony Awards Viewing Party, but I was excited nonetheless. My verdict? Blown away! The abounding energy, the atmosphere and the people, and of course the way Kristen made the evening entertaining with her hosting, was such a joy for me. It was great to see a variety of people attending, especially the younger audiences who truly appreciate theater.

I can see why so many people attend each year because the Blumenthal hosts like no other; we know how to throw a pretty rocking Tony Awards Viewing Party! The whole production that we put on and the energy that was ever present throughout the night really made this event unforgettable for me, and makes me look forward to attending this party in the years to come.
