Tuesday Tune: ‘The Muse’ by The Wood Brothers

June 24, 2014
Southern Reel 4

The Wood Brothers

Unlike most sibling bands, The Wood Brothers haven’t always performed as a unit. Chris and Oliver had separate, successful music careers before they realized, after playing a gig together in North Carolina, that they should make music together full time. In that moment, The Wood Brothers band was born. They soon collaborated, released a demo album and secured a record deal with Blue Note Records. Their first album, “Ways Not to Lose,” was released in 2005. They have been performing and touring as The Wood Brothers ever since.

Drawing inspiration from their Colorado upbringing, The Wood Brothers music is a combination of Americana, blues and folk, sounding eerily similar to a famous N.C. brother duo, The Avett Brothers. But that’s just my opinion. If you’re an Avett Brothers fan, definitely check out The Wood Brothers.

“The Muse,” the most recent album, was released in October 2013. Watch the official music video for the title track below. “The Muse” reminds me of Bob Dylan, and I wouldn’t just throw those words around.

Don’t miss The Wood Brothers live in McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square, Saturday, Sept. 27. Tickets are as low as $18.50 and just went on public sale Friday, so buy now for the best seats!

Just for fun! Check out The Wood Brothers’ awesome cover of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” below.
