Don’t you wish there was a day in your week, or even in your month, where you could let loose, throw your hands in the air and dance like you just don’t care? (And no, I don’t mean silently jamming side to side while you’re pushing a grocery cart in Wal-Mart.) What I’m talking about is when you truly go all out and move to the beat of your own rhythm!

“Where and when could I possibly do this?” you may ask? At this year’s National Dance Day event, of course! Carolinas HealthCare System presents National Dance Day 2014 in the Wells Fargo Plaza (301 S. Tryon St.) on Saturday, July 26, where anyone can jive in whatever way they please — for free!

The dancing begins at 1 p.m. and goes on until 4:30 p.m. For those who feel they have two left feet, don’t sweat it! Dance instructors will be on site to teach the two National Dance Day routines and popular large group dance numbers. What’s even better is that this event is open to anyone and everyone; young and old, tall and small, coordinated or clumsy.

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance,”  created National Dance Day to promote health and self-esteem through the art form of dance. Blumenthal Performing Arts will join hundreds of other organizations across the country in hosting an array of participatory dance activities on this empowering day of dance! Education director Ralph Beck says, “National Dance Day is all about having fun and getting some great exercise. No prior dance experience is necessary, and we encourage everyone to come join in all the fun. Last year, we saw people of all ages dancing their hearts out, and we look forward to that again this year!”

So don’t be shy, you heard the man! On July 26 get off your tush and join us for an afternoon filled with letting out your inner Dancing Queen (or King) while getting in a fun workout for your weekend. For more information, CLICK HERE.
