Tuesday Tune: ‘We Just Disagree’ by Dave Mason
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason was a founding member of the English rock band Traffic but went on to have a successful solo career that launched in the early ’70s. Now Mason is bringing his “Traffic Jam” show, full of Traffic hits as well as his solo work, to McGlohon Theater on Friday, Nov. 14.
Not only is Mason a gifted singer and songwriter, he’s also a multi-instrumentalist and often heralded as one of the greatest living rock guitarists. His name is often mentioned with fellow greats such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. He has collaborated with the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Michael Jackson.
Being an international rock star isn’t Mason’s most important achievement. In a recent interview with Digital Journal, Mason talked about what he’s been up to lately and his proudest achievement thus far.
Well, mostly the thing I’ve been doing for 45 years — touring! Mostly I’m out with a show called ‘Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam’ and I am revisiting stuff from my early days with Traffic for the first part of the show, and then the second half, I’m basically doing my own material. My proudest stuff is what myself and two other friends do for the vets … We have a charity called Work Vessels for Veterans and we help veterans start their own businesses.
Check out this 2011 performance of Mason’s solo hit “We Just Disagree.” It’s a tune that truly stands the test of time and is as applicable today as when it was first released in 1977.
With over five decades of hit songs and music milestones under his belt, Mason has made it clear that he’s not slowing down anytime soon. His most recent album, “Future’s Past,” was released in May. This fall, he will perform songs from his newest album in addition to songs from throughout his impressive career in the intimate McGlohon Theater.
