Tuesday Tune: ‘The Fever’ by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes

December 9, 2014

The Jersey Shore has produced some great talent throughout the years, and no, I’m not talking about Snooki and JWoww …

Southside Johnny (John Lyon) emerged in the mid-1970s from the music scene on the Jersey Shore, following closely behind fellow rocker, friend and New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen. Southside Johnny, joined by his band The Asbury Jukes, co-founded by Steven Van Zandt, has released countless critically-acclaimed albums and has served as an influence for other notable performers like Jon Bon Jovi, who toured with the band in 1990. Southside’s signature sound includes a horn section and guitar licks, and fuses together rhythm and blues, rock, soul and groove.

The close relationship between Springsteen and Southside allowed them to share band members. Several musicians have played with the Asbury Jukes and Springsteen’s E Street Band simultaneously. Southside Johnny has also covered many of Springsteen’s songs. They received great attention for their cover of “The Fever.” Watch the video below for a throwback live performance of “The Fever” from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.
