Tuesday Tune: ‘The Look of Love’ by Chris Botti and Lisa Fischer
Two musical masterminds are coming to Charlotte: Chris Botti and Lisa Fischer. While the two won’t appear at the same time, they’ve worked together in the past to make amazing music. Chris Botti brings his trumpet virtuosity to Belk Theater June 6. Lisa Fischer will perform in the intimate McGlohon Theater Sept. 16.
Chris Botti last played Belk Theater in May 2013 to a packed house. Known for his trumpet playing and his collaborations with other musicians, Botti always offers up an exciting show that showcases his genius on the trumpet. Botti’s signature sound has been featured on recordings with Bette Midler, Natalie Cole, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin and more. Three of his own albums have reached No. 1 on Billboard’s jazz albums chart and he recently won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album for “Impressions” in 2013.
Lisa Fischer has been around in the music industry for many years, even winning a Grammy in 1992, but you may not know about her because she primarily sings backup for other vocalists. She’s provided background vocals for acts including The Rolling Stones, Sting, Luther Vandross and Tina Turner. According to those she has worked for, she’s the best of the best. I personally find her voice to be one of the most remarkable I’ve ever heard. She was launched back into the spotlight by 2013’s Academy Award-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, which features the careers of Fischer and other backup singers.
Watch Chris Botti and Lisa Fischer join forces on “The Look of Love” below, then be sure to catch them both at their upcoming performances on Blumenthal stages.
