Motown The Musical, part of the PNC Broadway Lights, features over 40 classic Motown songs including the Motown anthem “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Ashford was inspired to write the iconic R&B song after moving to New York City. He was determined not to let the harsh city get the best of him. The duo wrote the song in 1966 and it became a huge success for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in 1967. Diana Ross later recorded the hit in 1970 and it went on to become Ross’ first solo No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ross’ version was also nominated for a Grammy.
