Tuesday Tune: ‘You Won’t Let Go’ by Michael W. Smith
Michael W. Smith is an acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician who has sold more than 15 million albums. He’s also achieved 31 No. 1 songs and earned three Grammy® Awards, one American Music Award and more than 40 Dove Awards.
In the early ’90s, Smith achieved crossover success with “Place in This World,” which reached No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and “I Will Be Here For You.” He became the first Christian artist to be awarded the “Golden Note” Award for lifetime achievement in songwriting from ASCAP in 1999. Most recently, ASCAP named Smith and Amy Grant “cornerstones of Christian music” for their impact on the music genre.
Throughout his career, Smith has had the opportunity to sing for several presidents and national leaders. He’s appeared in two films and penned multiple books. An avid philanthropist, he actively supports the teen club Rocketown, Compassion International and Samaritan’s Purse.
Smith’s first studio worship album since 2008, “Sovereign,” was released last year and debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on the Christian albums chart. The album’s first single was “You Won’t Let Go.” Watch a live performance of the song below.
