Tuesday Tune: ‘Ragtime’ Featuring the Original Broadway Cast

September 22, 2015

Ragtime_235Ragtime made its Broadway debut in 1998 and featured a star-studded cast including Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald, who won a Tony Award® for best performance by a featured actress in a musical for her performance as Sarah. Lea Michele of Spring Awakening and “Glee” fame was even in the original cast. Winning Tony Awards for best book and best musical score, this 13-time Tony Award-nominated musical is a timeless celebration of life — what it could and should be!

Melding together the stories of three very different groups of people, Ragtime tells the tales of an upper-class suburbanite wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young African-American Harlem musician. Set in turn-of-the-century New York, all three are united by their desire and belief in a brighter tomorrow.

Check out the original Broadway cast perform the title song, “Ragtime,” at the 1998 Tony Awards.

Ragtime plays at Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts for four performances only, Nov. 30-Dec. 3. Tickets are on sale now and great seats are still available. Get your tickets today!
