We had high hopes that the international festival of hip-hop dance theatre would wow Charlotte audiences and give them something they’ve never experienced. That’s exactly what happened this past weekend when the first Breakin’ Convention CLT descended on the Queen City. Levine Center for the Arts and Spirit Square were buzzing with activity and a special energy that we just can’t shake. Apparently, we aren’t alone. We’re still getting messages from attendees and performers about their experience.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for having the Breakin’ Convention in town. We attended on Saturday night. It was a great event, truly interactive and family friendly. The performances were wonderful and it was so nice to see such a diverse crowd. I hope that you will have them back and continue to look for experiences such as this to bring to Charlotte. Thank you!

Breakin’ Convention CLT was one of the most amazing experiences in my career as a dancer, choreographer, artistic director, and designer. It was definitely a much needed creative reboot for the city of Charlotte.

So, Breakin’ Convention CLT was the FIRE that I needed to fall back in love with dance, and refocus on myself as an artist … I’ve never been so captivated and amazed by one thing in my entire LIFE! From the cyphers, to the chats with international crews, and the Fashion Freestyle event. From top to bottom, this event was EXACTLY what Charlotte, NC needed!
