Jimmy Webb: The Glen Campbell Years Comes to McGlohon Theater
Jimmy Webb, one of America’s most prolific songwriters, comes to Charlotte for one night only on Feb. 6 at McGlohon Theater. He was the youngest person ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has had many hits over his 50+ years of writing and performing music. His music has spanned genres as diverse as disco, country and pop, and he’s the only artist ever to receive Grammy Awards® for music, lyrics and orchestration.
His music has been performed or recorded by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Carly Simon, REM and many others. Perhaps his most enduring musical relationship, however, was with Glen Campbell, the country star whose musical style melded so well with Webb’s.
More than 100 songs came out of this collaboration. In his show Jimmy Webb: The Glen Campbell Years, audiences can expect songs like “Honey Come Back,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston” as well as personal anecdotes shared by Webb in this special evening.
Get a taste of Webb’s intimate style in this video of him singing “Galveston,” a song that Campbell helped turn into an enduring hit.
Jimmy Webb: The Glen Campbell Years comes to the McGlohon Theater Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. For tickets, call 704-372-1000 or visit BlumenthalArts.org.
