Calling All Breakin’ Convention Fans!

February 17, 2016
A little lobby action during intermission at Knight Theater this past fall.

Breakers get in on the action in the lobby of Knight Theater during Breakin’ Convention last fall.

If you missed Breakin’ Convention last fall, chances are you heard about it and wished you had attended! The international festival of hip-hop dance theater was an absolute hit here in Charlotte, breaking boundaries and bringing our city together in a new way. Fortunately, Breakin’ Convention is returning to Charlotte this fall.

Too long to have to wait? Yeah, we agree. You’re in luck, though, because come April Breakin’ Convention Presents Open Art Surgery comes to Booth Playhouse! And if you’re interested in being a part of it, here’s your chance! Read on!

open-art-surgery_300Breakin’ Convention‘s artistic director, Jonzi D, will lead a weeklong choreographic residency that will culminate in a public showing and discussion on Saturday, April 9, in the Booth Playhouse.  Hosted by Jonzi D, this informal sharing breaks the fourth wall and invites the audience to question and critique the new work shown. This gives artists a unique opportunity to test the waters in a theater environment and, equally interestingly, gives audience members the opportunity to speak directly to the artists about their work.

Interested in being a part of Open Art Surgery? Click here for more information, or email breakinconvention@ncbpac.org for more information and to apply.
