Tuesday Tune: “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” by Michael Bolton
Michael Bolton has arguably one of the most recognizable voices in the music industry. His sultry, raspy, and strong voice lends itself to love songs so perfectly, which is something he has capitalized on throughout his career, and rightfully so. His take on classics like “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “To Love Somebody” helped solidify Bolton as a voice to be reckoned with, and swooned the hearts of fans around the world. He’s sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.
My personal favorite Michael Bolton song is “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” which reached the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. Bolton wrote the hit with Doug James in the early ’80s. Air Supply showed interest in recording the song, but they wanted slight changes to the lyrics. Bolton turned down the changes. He must have known what he was doing because the song became a hit for Bolton when he released it in 1989, earning him a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
